Laryngeal granuloma (LG) is a benign vocal cord lesions due to the causes of many factors.Objective:1.Describe epidemiological characteristics and risk factors of LG.2. Describe the clinical characteristics and endoscopic lesions morphology of LG. Material and methode: The study included 48 patients who were diagnosed with LG at The National Ear-Nose-Throat Hospital, Hanoi, Vietnam during the period of March, 2010 to July, 2012. The method: case study. The data was analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 2.0 to compare the effect of conservative and operation treatment. Results: Contact granuloma of larynx is more common in men (84.6 percent). The main causes are gastro esophageal reflux, chronic cough, habitual hawk and endotracheal intubation disease. However, a large proportion (38.4 percent) also acquire the disease without any other disease history. The main clinical features of LG include feelings of foreign matter in throat, exhaustion while talking and hoarse voice. But also 30.7 percent without any feature in throat amongst the 13 cases, 6 were treated by operation and the first recurrence was 66.6 percent. The cure rate was 50 percent after one or two operations. The other 7 were treated in the conservative way, which included: anti- Gastro esophageal reflux, avoiding excessive talking, reducing habitual hawk, or without any medical treatment. The cure rate was 57.1 percent. The total cure rate was 53.8 percent. There is insufficient evidence to suggest a significant difference in the cure rate of the two methods (Chi2 = 0.066, P 0.05). Conclusion: There is still no standard treatment for contact granuloma of larynx. The treatment should be decided upon individual cases. Conservative treatment is the first choice. However, operation should be indicated if the patient has obviously hoarse voice and if the large granuloma prevents the patient from breathing well.
