The article conducted study on comparison of the economic efficiency of the offshore fisheries, case of tuna longline and gillnet fisheries in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa provine in 2008. The result showed that tuna longline fishery is more economically efficient than gillnet fishery in sub-sized and non-subsidized fuel of government. When non-subsidized fuel of government, an average profit margin of a tuna longline vessel is 11.3 percent while this rate for a gillnet vessel is only 2.04 percent
the return on investment of a tuna longline vessel is 24 percent while this rate for a gillnet vessel is only 2.48 percent. On other hand, while there is sub-sized fuel of government, an average profit margin and the return on investment also go up. In specially, a profit margin of a tuna longline and gillnet vessel are 14.28 percent and 4.84 percent respectively
the return on investment of a longline vessel is 31.56 percent and a gillnet vessel is 5.86 percent. Besides, the average income of a crew in tuna longline fishery is about 1.8 million VND/month, while the average income of a crew in gillnet fishery is about 1.65 million VND/month. This study also indicates that sub-sized fuel of government do not change the vessels behaviors at the researching time, so the sub-sized fuel of government was be abolished after only a year.
