Based on a survey of 600 households in Ho Chi Minh city, Nam Dinh and Dak Lak, the analyses focus on identifying characteristics and nature of current charity activities in communities in order to unveil potentials and evaluate endogenous capacity in the society through charity activities. The results show high proportions of people wanting to give charity, being ready to participate as well as already participating in charity activities, especially in rural areas. Charity activities in communities are mainly voluntary and it is a great advantage for promoting social strength and resources. However, it needs to build a more effective mechanism for operating and monitoring of charitable resources to ensure transparency, fairness and equality.
