Communality has been one of the themes attracting social-science circle for many decades. While Western scholars often consider the communality in dynamic statuses, Vietnam's researchers tend to explain communality in static situations, and link communality with the existence and identity of each village, characterized by sensuousness and autonomy. Based on survey data from a research project "Impacts of social network toward economic development of households in rural areas" carried out in Lien Bao and Ninh Hiep communes, the article analyzes some new dynamics of rural communality in the Red River Delta in the context of transition and integration in rural Vietnam.
