The freshwater fish seed production and culture in the country has significantly developed, in the recent years with traditional freshwater species, catfish and tilapia. The study was conducted between 2010 and 2011 in the three major freshwater fish seed production namely Nghe An, Thua Thien Hue and An Giang provinces in order to evaluate the technical status and put forward solutions for improving production efficiency. The results showed that natural conditions and production facilities in the three centers satisfied the requirements of the large scale seed production centers. All of the three centers maintained a great number of broodstocks, in which the center in Nghe An had the highest number at 10,400 broodfishes, followed by An Giang at 8,500 and Thua Thien Hue at 7,520 brood fishes. The highest number of fingerlings produced was in An Giang center (10.9 million fingerlings, 40 percent),followed by Nghe An (9.84 million, 24.6 percent) and Thua Thien Hue (6.25 million, 23.5 percent). During production fishes were commonly infected some bacterial diseases (5 -16 percent) and parasites (13 - 67 percent). This study also put forward a number of solutions related to techniques, management and human resources in order to improve production efficiency.
