The purpose of this study was to evaluate the growth and survival rate of some strains of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum, 1792) to determine appropriate strain in Vietnam s condition. The study was conducted from June 2011 to June 20/2 at Sa Pa - Lao Cai Researching Cold Water fish Centre. All experiments were carried to four strains of rainbow trout: purebred rainbow trout, Chinese rainbow trout, American rainbow trout, the female of rainbow trout. Each strain was repeated three times. Average size of fish is 30 g/ind. The density in tank was the same (/25 ind/3m3). Food stuff made in Finland with protein is 52 percent and 20 percent lipid. Experimental results show that, all environmental factors such as temperature, pH, DO in experiments were suitable for the growth of rainbow trout. Daily growth in weight and length of four strains of rainbow trout, respectively: the American rainbow trout (1.7778 g/da
0.08284 cm/da), the whole female of rainbow trout (1.7019 g/dy
0.087/2 cm/da), purebred rainbow trout (1.5761 g/da
0.06784 cm/da), Chinese rainbow trout 1.5403 g/da, 0.0838 cm/da). The survival rate of purebred rainbow trout is the highest (96.7 percent), the whole female of rainbow trout (93.3 percent), American rainbow trout (83.7 percent) and the lowest rate belongs to Chinese rainbow trout (74). Daily growth in weight, length and survival rate among the different strains were significantly difference (p 0.05). In the same environmental conditions, culturing and feeding, with the different strains, the growth and survival rate were difference. In conclusion, the purebred rainbow trout and the whole female of rainbow trout were appropriate lines fitted up with environment of Vietnam in this study.
