The excessive hydrophilicity of carbohydrates hampers their application in drug discovery. Deoxyfluorination is one of the strategies to increase sugar lipophilicity. However, lipophilicities of dideoxy-difluorinated monosaccharides are still well below the desired range for oral drug candidates.
