Malignant melanoma (MM) is predominantly seen in the skin, but it can also be seen in the eyes, ear, gastrointestinal tract, genital tract and mucous membrane of the oral cavity. MM of the ear accounts 1-4% of all cutaneous melanomas. In ear, pinna is the most common site. Primarily MM of the auditory canal is very rare. Here, we report a 70 year old male who presented with ear discharge, mass in ear and reduced hearing
was diagnosed as Malignant Melanoma of the external auditory canal. He underwent surgery followed by adjuvant chemoradiation. At present, the patient is doing well and on follow up. The aim of this report is to put forward the rare site of malignant melanoma and highlight the importance of early diagnosis in suspected cases with Immunohistochemistry (IHC), providing effective multimodality treatment.
