Sepsis is a life‑threatening organ dysfunction disorder caused by dysfunctional host response to infection. Sepsis‑induced cardiomyopathy (SIC) is a common and serious complication of sepsis, and it is associated with increased mortality rates
however, its specific pathogenesis is still unclear. Ferroptosis, which is an iron‑dependent form of programmed cell death, is involved in the pathophysiology of SIC. Further study on the mechanism and therapeutic targets of ferroptosis in SIC may provide new strategies for clinical diagnosis and treatment of this condition. The present article reviews the mechanisms between SIC and ferroptosis, summarizes the progress in research of the involvement of ferroptosis in SIC and provides new potential strategies for further research and treatment in the future.
