Samanta et al. (2023, Science of the Total Environment, 903, 166624) simulated the changes in the mangrove-covered island areas of the Indian Sundarban due to sea level rise using the Sea Level Affecting Marshes Model (SLAMM) for the RCP 2.6, 4.5, and 8.5 scenarios in 2030, 2050, and 2100. The work contained issues related to the validation and accuracy of the elevation data used and model inputs like the tidal range of the Sundarban. Most of the model outputs were found to be geomorphologically unfeasible to occur. We systematically addressed all these issues in the present discussion and offered corrected information wherever applicable. Exercises like these are important from the management point of view and should take into account the regional trends and characteristics holistically.
