We investigated whether dietary supplementation with cholic acid (CA) suppressed hepatic very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) secretion in rats. Dietary CA supplementation suppressed VLDL secretion in vivo in the presence of insulin. These results suggest that enterohepatic 12-hydroxylated bile acids further enhance insulin-induced suppression of hepatic VLDL secretion, which contributes to hepatic lipid accumulation.
