One of the major challenges in low- and middle-income countries (LIMC) is not only the rising burden of infectious and communicable diseases (epidemiological transition), but also the increasing severity of diseases. While several treatment methods are currently available worldwide to reduce associated morbidity and mortality in many diseases, many remain untested and ineffective in LIMC. Thus, it is important that researchers continue to investigate various innovations not only to test new treatment methods, but also to investigate new ways of operationalizing existing treatment methods.
